Welcome to the FAQ section of the Furfragged.com message board. Scroll down and look for a question that may pertain to your query. The questions are divided into sections, and below this prompt are shortcut links. Also try ctrl + F to find your question
Why is there an FAQ?
This is a quick and easy way to answer questions ahead of time. It also saves you and the staff time. This is also a convenient way to relay information which would otherwise be unknown.
I've looked throughout the FAQ and I still can't find an answer to my question; what do I do?
At the moment, you should simply private message Liko your question. You can also post it on his profile. If it pertains to other users, it may be added to the FAQ.
My question was added to the FAQ, sorta... Why was it changed?
Simply to generalize it and make it apply more to other issues. Say for example if your question was asking "why vore is banned?", I may just change it to "why is NSFW content banned?"
Are these questions people have actually asked?
Short answer, no. Long answer, no, but given time there will be some user submitted questions which will be added to the mix.
How frequently might you update this FAQ?
I'll try to keep it up to date as possible. I'll make sure to make changes when necessary if I've added a new staff member, new boards, or even receive a new question I feel should be added.
Will there be anything about site policies on this FAQ at some point?
Yes there will be. This FAQ will be moved to the main site and will have a couple new sections on submissions and whatnot.
Why was this site created?
It mostly came out of the lack of support for furry game content on FPSBanana, but I (Liko) first came up with the idea while looking desperately for furry/anthro character models for Unreal Tournament 2004. I found myself with 10 tabs open; ModDB, Skincity, PlanetUnreal, FPSBanana, etc. all searching for furry related skins. So my goal is to consolidate all the content into one place.
Where did the name Furfragged come from?
Take the term "furfag" and combine it with a commonly used term from FPSs. Let's take something that would fit, so frag. So we have Furfrag. Put into past tense for style, and bam, Furfragged.
Why did it take almost 2 years to finally get just a message board up?
I really don't know why it took so long. I lost track of time and got caught up with other things, some important (college) some not (playing games). But hey it's finally here.
When can we expect any action actually taking place on Furfragged.com?
2011. That's all I will say, and no, that's not late 2011, I'll try to get something going on with it, be it submissions or links to content, just something to ensure Furfragged is not just another message board without a site. I don't have a deadline for a submission system other than posting on the forums.
What can I do to help?
Join the forums, post, and hold tight. Invite friends, do what you can to get this place active.
Will it be just furry content?
Not strictly, but it mostly will. Maps are allowed content, and honestly, I don't see how you can have a "furry level" without it being tacky.
What are the rules?
The rules are located here.
I can't find anything!
Look for the help guide in the announcements.
When are you hiring staff and moderators?
When the need arises. That will probably be when we have at least 25 active members. It really depends on how well I can handle that amount of members.
When you're hiring, how do I get hired?
Patience. I really hate people who beg because it means they want it for the power and not the responsibility. My criteria is all relative. One thing though I will say is definite is that you must speak/type English well. Timezones will be very important as well; I don't want to have 5 moderators all on the east coast of the United States with none in Europe.
I'm banned, wut?
It's usually temporary, but take this as a warning as you were probably in clear violation of some rule. Try your best not to do whatever you did again.
How can I know the details of my ban?
If you provided the registration with a real email, I shall email you with the details of your ban with reason for ban, quoted post, duration of ban, lift date, and details on possible appeal.
I wasn't emailed the details of my ban, why?
This is because your violation was so blatant I decided to not waste the effort in sending you the details.
There's hardly any activity here. What do you suggest?
For the time being, I'd suggest keeping this site bookmarked in your toolbar and check back every once in a while, I'd suggest anywhere from 1 to 3 times a day. This should keep the forums active enough, and keep you from dying from boredom. If members make threads, try churning up the discussion. Our first priority for the board is to get activity up and running.
I'm not a furry, can I still join?
Of course. Fur Affinity doesn't restrict its membership to just furries. So why should we?
Hey I know some one on the staff here, does this mean I get special treatment?
No. Plain and simple, no.
What is reputation?
It's kind of like the rep system at the Steam Powered User Forums, but you can take away reputation as well. So if some one is helpful, proposes an awesome idea or contributes in some positive way, add to their reputation. If they break the rules, try to derail a topic, or just do something flat out boneheaded, subtract from their reputation. Please do not abuse this system as in adding/subtracting without reason.
Are there multiple skins?
Not right now, I still need to finish the first.
A friend of mine who I invited here is causing trouble, am I responsible?
Don't worry too much about it, you aren't responsible for his/her actions. If it happens multiple times however, we may investigate and wish to discuss the issue with you.
My post count is inaccurate/lower than it should be.
Contact Liko, and he will take the issue from there.
Can staff see our private messages?
No, but if you harass people via private message, that won't stop you from being reported.
What profile fields are required?
None are required, but it is suggested to have an avatar to give your posts "personality."
What are the limits on avatars?
uploads for avatars are limited to 100px by 100px, but remote linked avatars should remain under 200px by 200px. An easy solution to this would be to just save the one from your Steam id and reupload that somewhere. Steam profile pics are 184px square. And please keep them PG-13 at most. One last note is that if it's animated, try to keep it under a megabyte; we don't need 80% of the page load devoted to your avatar. You may use artwork of another artist for your avatar, just don't claim credit for it.
What are the limits on sigs?
There is no specific limit, but just try to keep it reasonable. Jamming 50 different things into 1 sig can be obnoxious.
Steam id? You mean our login?
No, the part after http://www.steamcommunity.com/id/, this is so people can find you on the community
I can change my name, do I have a new login too?
No, if for instance you registered as fobie78 and changed your name to Fobie, you still need to log in as fobie78. Changing your name is advised if you usually have a lengthy screenname that didn't fit when you registered.
Is there any restriction on name changes?
Nothing too drastic, just don't be that guy who changes their name every day/week/month. It's only there so you can make adjustments or in case you change fursonas/character avatars. If people abuse name changes, I will resort to taking away this privilege.
What can I post about?
Mostly anything as long as it doesn't break the rules.
What is the general posting etiquette?
Keep it under one thread per day, avoid double posting , and be sure to check for other threads about a topic you may want to put into a new thread; some one might have already done it.
Many forums have a no revival rule, and at the same time no dupe threads rule. What is your policy in regards to this?
For now, we'd rather you revive a thread than start a new one, but as we get more active, then we'll change our preference.
What is your policy on images in a post?
Keep images under 640 in width, and if you have more than 10, try to thumbnail them. If you're uploading them to imageshack or photobucket, it should provide you with a thumbnailed version.
Is there a minimum length to posts? how about a maximum?
There's no definite max or min, but try your best to refrain from single word posts, especially when they are totally inappropriate. (for instance if some one posts some lengthy story, responding with just "tl;dr" would be completely uncalled for. If that's all you would post, don't bother posting.) As for a max, the SMF format actually limits it to I think like 1,000,000,000 characters per post, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. If you reach that point, then I think it would be fair to double post.
Can I "bump" a thread?
At this point, there's no feasible reason to, so no.
Some one posted something that is in violation of the rules and no one has taken action on it for a while, what can I do?
At the bottom right of the post there is a report to moderator link. By doing this, it will put the post into a queue of reports which the current staff will look at and determine whether or not your report is of legitimate concern and will take action upon what we believe should be done. (Currently set in the options, all reports will be forwarded to Liko's email which in turn will show up on his phone immediately; reports will be acted upon within 5 hours if not instantly.)
Some one posted something I feel is offensive to me, should I report them?
In most cases of personal offense, they will mostly be dismissed as "Why can't you take a joke?" But if you honestly feel this person is in the wrong by posting what they did, there's no harm in reporting them.
Is there any harm in over-reporting?
If by this you mean abusing the report system, yes. If we find that you are reporting all the posts of the same person over and over, then action will be taken against you.
Is there a limit to how many posts I can make in a day?
No, you can post as much as you want as long as you don't double post.
Is English the only allowed language?
Yes it is.
How dare you, that's prejudice.
No, it's not; it's only because we have no way of moderating posts in a language we don't understand.
Why are there rules?
To maintain a certain level of sanity in the community.
Why are there so many rules?
Originally I thought about only having two very general rules and those would be "don't be a dick" and "don't do anything illegal," but I figured these were far too vague, plus I wanted something to cover outside conflicts, so I made them as clauses. Still though, 10 rules to abide by is not much for a message board and they are obvious posting etiquette, not silly rules like having to remember to capitalize thread titles.
You say no sexual content, but this is a furry site, how does this work? trolololo!
Not everything furry related has to be sexual. There's plenty of furry art out there that's tame and safe to show the family. Not only that, but we do host non-furry content as well.
"Flaming" is such a subjective term, how do you determine what's flaming, and what's a harmless argument that's gotten a little heated?
We look at it on a case by case basis and use best judgment. It's really dependent upon the context and who's involved.
So is sarcasm just banned to protect the whiners out there or what?
Sarcasm is not banned. If some one takes you seriously and makes a complainy post in response, ignore them. We'd rather have the cynical type instead of the dramatic type.
Some one I know who is trouble just joined, what can be done?
Just because they caused problems elsewhere doesn't mean they'll cause trouble here; they get a clean slate here like anyone else.
How broad is the no outside disputes rule?
You can poke fun at communities, you can even poke fun at their administrators so long as it's justified. Just don't start threads about it. And don't get obsessive. Last thing we need is a discussion about how much you hate Garry.
wat do u men i cont tpye liek tis?
If it's near impossible to understand what you're typing, learn to type. Anyone who got through elementary school should know how to at least spell properly; there's no excuse for shorthand, and especially no excuse for spelling everyday words grotesquely wrong.
I have this really awesome website totally related to furfragged.com, can I advertise it?
No.
OK, it's totally unrelated then.
Still no.
So when you say "via personal request" does that mean you can make up additional rules as you wish? That's total bull.
It does not mean that, it's merely something to cover our bases, especially since there's no other way to say "no odd/out of line behavior" without people asking what that might be. One such behavior may be some one who ends every post with the same sentence every time, they might be some one who overdoes emoticons, or they put their text in a color that's hard to see. Stuff like that.
I've gotten my avatar/sig/other privileges taken away; will I ever get them back?
Eventually. There is no definite timeframe, it really depends on good behavior.
Incrementing suspension times, does this mean no permabans?
Permabans will be rare. The only people who will get permabanned are people who are clearly only here to cause trouble. We want to try our best to keep our regular members on the site, but we still believe in some form of justice. Suspended members still have posting privileges, but only in forums designated for them (referred to as "venting" forums). This should just give them a decent cool down time.
"Decisions at their own discretion?" So one moderator could be a total hardass and warn us for every minor offense, whereas another one can just be a lazy ass who only does stuff when told to? That seems rather inconsistent and confusing.
It won't be that extreme, I'll try to get my moderating team in the same area of strictness, but understand if they work differently and adjust to those needs.
What are the proposed staff positions?
- Administrator; controls everything and maintains the site
- Global Moderator; controls all forums
- Power Moderator; controls a category of forums
- Moderator; controls one or two forums
- Submission Handler; inspects submissions for quality and makes sure they're clean of viruses and run properly.
How do I become staff? Is there any point in time I can apply?
We don't work like FPSBanana in which we take applications at any time. When the need arises, a member will be asked via private message.
Are you seriously going with the bland hierarchical structure for staff?
For now, yes, it's the easiest way to get help. However I have a proposal to make it more democratic, though this will come in much much later if we ever reach 1000 members.
Are staff members allowed to break/bend the rules?
No, they have to abide by the rules like everybody else; they must act as a role model to other members.
I feel one of the staff members is being abusive to me or another member.
Message an administrator, and we'll look into the issue.
What are the qualifications for submission handler?
You must have a good anti-virus (nod32 is preferred) and have a good knowledge of the material you are handling. If you're dealing with maps, be sure you know enough about quality control, and for models, be sure to know how to decompile a model to see if there are hacks embedded into the file.
I'm a babyfur/voraphile/other group, am I allowed here?
There is no restriction on who is allowed to register, just refrain from being too much in character; reserve it for chatrooms and instant messages.
I hate your site.
Then don't come here, simple as that.
There is a lack of submissions, what do?
This is something totally up to the members, There's nothing stopping them from making submissions.
